Checkon Privacy Notice
Last updated:
Checkon is independently developed by Anthony Chase (referred to in this notice as “Checkon,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Notice explains how we handle personal information when you use the Checkon iOS app or visit official Checkon pages on chase-on.com that link to this notice.
Our service providers, including Shopify, Google, hCaptcha, Apple, Cloudflare, OpenAI, and Meta, process information under their own privacy notices, which may also apply to their processing. This notice does not cover unrelated retail pages or services that may be available elsewhere on chase-on.com.
For privacy questions or requests, contact us at checkonapp@outlook.com.
A short summary
- Most Checkon content is stored on your device.
- iCloud sync, backup, collaboration, permissions, and AI Coach are optional features that you control.
- Checkon does not run its own sync server for your ordinary checklist, task, note, and folder library.
- Checkon does not show third-party advertising inside the app.
- When you use AI Coach, selected information is processed by Cloudflare and OpenAI as described below.
1. Information handled when you visit the website
Website services and cookies. Checkon webpages are provided through Shopify. Google Tag Manager is embedded on chase-on.com to manage website tags, and hCaptcha may be used on website forms to prevent spam and abuse. These providers may process technical information, such as your IP address, browser and device information, pages requested, and the date and time of your visit, and may use cookies or similar technologies. Where required by applicable law, we obtain consent before enabling non-essential cookies or similar technologies. Shopify, Google, and hCaptcha process information under their own privacy notices.
If you contact us by email or through a website form, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your name, email address, message, and any attachments. We use it to respond to you, provide support, and protect against spam or abuse.
We do not use the contents of your Checkon library to tailor website advertising. If non-essential analytics or advertising technologies are enabled on these pages, we will update this notice and obtain consent where required by law.
The Checkon website does not receive the contents of your Checkon library merely because you visit a webpage.
2. App content stored on your device
Checkon stores your folders, checklists, tasks, notes, Smart Inbox items, attachments, Coach history, and settings primarily on your device. We do not operate our own server for synchronizing your ordinary app library.
You can delete local app data by deleting it in the app or removing the app. Removing the app does not necessarily remove a copy that you have chosen to store in iCloud or in a backup; manage those copies through your Apple and iCloud settings as appropriate.
3. Optional iCloud, backup, and collaboration
If you enable iCloud sync, iCloud backup, or collaboration, Apple iCloud and CloudKit may process and store content needed to provide those features under your Apple ID. That content can include folders, checklists, tasks, notes, reminders, collaboration invitations, and related app metadata.
If you share content with other people, those collaborators can access the content you choose to share. Checkon does not have access to your Apple ID password and does not operate a separate Checkon sync server for that content.
4. Device permissions and sensitive information
Checkon requests access only when a feature needs it and you choose to use that feature. You can change permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
| Permission or data | How Checkon uses it |
|---|---|
| Location | To support location-based checklist and reminder features, such as when you arrive at or leave a place. Location data is not sent to Checkon or shared with Meta. |
| Calendar | To create, update, or remove Apple Calendar events for scheduled checklists or tasks. |
| Contacts | To show familiar names for people you collaborate with. |
| Apple Health | To read only the Health data you connect to tasks—such as steps, workouts, active energy, sleep, or medication doses—and to write only selected data, such as water intake or nutrition, when you complete connected tasks. Health data is not used for advertising, sold, or shared with Meta. |
| Microphone and speech recognition | To record an audio note, dictate an editable Coach message, or start an optional live Coach conversation. Apple Speech Recognition may process dictation as described by Apple. |
| Photos and camera | To attach photos you choose to notes or profiles. Checkon does not scan your photo library; it uses only images you explicitly select or capture. |
| Notifications and background activity | To send reminders and keep time-based or location-based features working reliably. |
5. AI Coach and voice conversations
AI Coach is optional. When Coach cloud processing is enabled and you choose to use it, Checkon may send typed Coach messages and a limited amount of relevant conversation context through Checkon’s Cloudflare gateway to OpenAI so Coach can respond.
For questions about your Checkon data, the app searches the categories you allow on your device and sends only bounded, relevant, verified information needed for your request—not your entire Checkon library. You can control eligible categories in Coach Privacy. Photos and audio attached to notes are excluded from Coach note access.
Conversation Continuity and Personal Memory are separate, default-off controls. Active Personal Memory is sent to OpenAI only when you enable both cloud Coach processing and memory use. You can review, edit, disable, or delete saved memories. Saved Personal Memories are stored locally and are not included in Checkon backups or iCloud sync in this version. Turning memory use off stops future use; it does not itself delete a memory you already saved.
If you start a live Coach conversation, Cloudflare authenticates the app and obtains a short-lived OpenAI session credential. The encrypted WebRTC conversation then runs directly between your device and OpenAI. Checkon does not save the live microphone recording. Final text transcripts may be stored in your local Coach history if you keep the conversation.
To operate Coach safely and prevent abuse, Cloudflare processes a pseudonymous installation identifier, Apple App Attest verification data, subscription-entitlement proof, security information, and usage/quota data. These records help us verify that Coach requests come from a legitimate entitled installation. They do not identify you by name on their own.
Checkon configures supported OpenAI requests not to store response state. This does not mean that no provider logs exist: OpenAI may process and retain certain API content and metadata for abuse monitoring or as required by law under its applicable API data controls. Cloudflare and OpenAI may also process data under their own applicable privacy terms.
Coach can make mistakes and is not a substitute for professional medical advice or emergency services.
6. Analytics and advertising measurement
Checkon may use Apple-provided diagnostic information, such as crash reports and performance data, to improve reliability.
Checkon also uses Meta App Events to measure app installs, launches, free trials, subscriptions, purchases, and related Facebook and Instagram ad-campaign performance. These events may include limited event, device, app, timestamp, and interaction information needed for measurement. They do not include your checklist or task content, notes, Health data, precise location, contacts, calendar events, photos, or audio recordings.
Checkon asks for Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission before enabling Meta advertiser-ID collection or tracking-related Meta app events. If you do not allow tracking, Checkon keeps those settings disabled. You can withdraw that permission later in iOS Settings.
We do not sell your core Checkon content for money. Depending on the law where you live, Meta’s ad-measurement processing may be considered “sharing” or “tracking.” You can opt out of that app tracking by declining or withdrawing App Tracking Transparency permission.
7. Who may receive information
We share information only as needed to provide the feature you choose, operate and secure Checkon, comply with law, or protect users and the service. The relevant recipients can include:
- Shopify, to host and deliver official Checkon webpages;
- Google Tag Manager, to manage website tags;
- hCaptcha, where a protected website form is used, to prevent spam and abuse;
- Apple, for iCloud, CloudKit, backups, collaboration, notifications, Calendar, Contacts, HealthKit, StoreKit, App Attest, and Apple Speech Recognition features;
- Cloudflare, to secure and operate the Coach gateway and authentication controls;
- OpenAI, to provide the optional Coach and live-voice functionality;
- Meta, for the optional app advertising measurement described above; and
- other website hosting, security, and form providers, when they are needed to operate official Checkon webpages.
We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of Checkon, our users, or others.
8. Retention and deletion
We retain information only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it is handled, including providing the feature, maintaining security and fraud prevention, resolving disputes, and complying with legal obligations.
Your ordinary app content remains on your device until you delete it or remove the app, subject to any iCloud or backup copy you have enabled. Coach history follows Checkon’s Archive and Trash controls. A Coach chat moved to Trash is eligible for permanent deletion after 30 days, and you can permanently delete it sooner in the app. Saved Personal Memories remain until you delete them.
Pseudonymous Coach-security and authentication records may be retained while needed to protect the service, authenticate an installation, enforce quotas, or meet legal obligations. Contact us if you need help with a privacy or deletion request.
9. Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where applicable law requires it, we use or rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
10. Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. You may also withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. To exercise a right, email checkonapp@outlook.com with enough information for us to understand and verify your request.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with a supervisory authority, you may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. California residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of applicable sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and receive equal service for exercising their rights, subject to applicable law.
11. Children
Checkon is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will address the request as required by law.
12. Changes to this notice
We may update this Privacy Notice when Checkon, the website, or applicable law changes. We will post the revised version here and update the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use information, we will provide additional notice where required.
